CEF's Education Chair Honoured With Volunteer Recognition Award

Shay Flores, Compassionate Eye Foundation

For the second year in a row, Sue Dick, Compassionate Eye Foundation's (CEF) Education Chair, has been honoured with the McCarthy Tétrault Volunteer Recognition Award. Since her induction as a CEF board member, she has developed CEF’s education action plan in Guatemala, Lai in India, and Sierra Leone.

Sue met members of CEF at a fundraising event in Vancouver in the spring of 2007. She quickly learned that this would be a great organization to work with in fulfilling a life long dream of building a classroom in Guatemala. As Sue worked with the CEF board members to fulfill this dream, she was drawn to their innovative funding model and passion to help those in developing nations.

The McCarthy Tétrault Volunteer Recognition Award recognizes the contributions of dedicated employees like Sue Dick, who invest in their communities and inspire others through their outstanding volunteer work. Through the McCarthy Tétrault Foundation, the award celebrates the outstanding volunteer efforts of recipients by making an aggregate donation of $10,000 to a Canadian non-profit organization of their choice. From a pool of seven nominees, she was one out of three selected and granted first prize and $6,000 to donate to a charity of her choice. Sue has chosen to split her donation between CEF's education sphere  and Habitat for Humanity.

Thank-you Sue for your dedication and your invaluable volunteer contributions to CEF! With your ongoing efforts you're helping CEF expand educational opportunities in regions most needed around the world.  Thank-you.
