CEF’s 2011 Toronto Summer Solstice: Our Most Secretive Shoot Ever!
Rey Buenaventura, CEF Social Media Manager After several weeks of intense negotiating, planning and hard work, our Toronto Summer Solstice event went off perfectly! Thanks to our photographer extraordinaire, Dean Sanderson, our crew managed to secure shooting in one of the busiest airports in Canada, Pearson International Airport. As Dean noted, “Getting approval to shoot at the airport was challenging, but everyone at the GTAA (Greater Toronto Airport Authority) and Getty (Images) were amazing in making this happen.”
So, with only a small crew comprised of four models, two assistants, one stylist and two hair & makeup artists. Dean’s crew worked eight straight hours to get some amazing stills to help support CEF’s various health and education projects throughout the world.
When asked what motivated and inspired him to volunteer for CEF, Dean talked about his close connection with Robert Kent and his desire to reach out to the greater Toronto photographic community. He wants to get them to not only notice the great work that CEF is doing, but inspire them to help.
Dean wanted to send a special message to all those amazing photographers who are still sitting on the sidelines, thinking about helping out the CEF cause. He says,
“[Just] do it, do it, do it... this is an organization started by our industry so that we can use our talents to give back to the world. For photographers and crew, there isn't a better way to give! All we have to do is what we love. We love our art and we love our jobs and we take that love, that passion, that drive and we put it towards a project that then gives back to the world. What better gift can you give the world?”
In closing, judging from the fantastic behind-the-scenes shots from our TO crew, everyone clearly had a lot of fun doing what they love while achieving our goal of making the world a better place, one image at a time!
